Clavichord - The start

What I would actually like to do is build another pipe organ. This time with a full keyboard and 3 or 4 stops, and a pedal board. I have, however, got limited funds, so this clavichord project will fill in a few months and gain me more experience.

So, what type of clavichord?

I am going for a non-fretted chavichord in an attempt to keep the key design simple. I would also like it to be compact and light, so I can transport it around. I do have some nice oak left over from the organ project which I can use for strength.

It will be 51 notes from CC to d3. I have been doing some trials with brass wire to determine string lengths. The longest string will be 1m, and the shortest 90mm.

Here is the results of the testing. I only tested the lowest and highest notes for each diameter and then calculated the other lengths for equal temperament scaling.

Now I am superimposing these lengths on a full size key drawing, then I'll know the actual size of the instrument.
